I was originally interested in completing my doula training as a stepping stone for midwifery classes and preparation; I never intended on making it my passion and career. Before attending my first birth as a student doula, I felt excited but nervous – what if I fainted, felt too anxious, or just couldn’t handle it? I thought that I hadn’t experienced anything like it as an adult, and was therefore unprepared. I needn’t have worried. Labor and birth were the places, both physically and mentally, where I felt the most calm, resourceful, and at home. I see them now as a vital part of life as a whole, always having great potential for joy and healing, no matter how they unfold.

Although I still have great interest in the field of midwifery, doula work has enhanced and colored my life in countless ways, and I am so happy doing it. I cherish each mother and family that I work with, and through learning about them (and with them!), I learn more about myself. The more people I work with and births I witness, the more I am convinced that there is no one right way to bring life into this world; there are as many different paths to birth as there are people doing it.

Witnessing parts of two births as a child was just the beginning for me. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt a keen interest in holistic health, birth, and the innate and unique strength that each woman has. Working as a doula is one of the most sacred and intimate ways that I can assist my fellow woman, her partner, and her family.

I received my labor doula training from Birthingway College of Midwifery in Portland, Oregon, and I am eager to serve my clients in every way that I am able. I also love spending time with my husband, hiking with our enormous dog, writing, reading, sewing, camping, and discovering restaurants with personality in the Portland area.
