Shaina has been working alongside midwives and pregnant women for the past 13 years. Her first doula client was her mom, when Shaina was 21 years old. From that moment on she has been fascinated and inspired by a woman's journey into motherhood. Shaina has studied with midwives in Hawaii, Seattle and Peru and is now working in the Vancouver and Portland Metro area. She has attended two Doula trainings, one in Seattle through SMS (Seattle Midwifery School), and most recently one through Birthingway College of Midwifery where she received her certification. Shaina also specializes in pregnancy and infant massage, and is attending Herbal Medicine School at present where she intends to focus primarily on maternal health.
"We couldn't have succeeded with a natural birth without the presence of a great Doula. Shaina was there to help me through an intense experience as well as a friend and cheering squad with my husband. As first time parents we needed all the help we could get and Shaina was a wealth of information. She provided support and became part of a team. Through such a long labor and four shifts of midwives and nurses on staff, the consistency of a familiar Doula was essential. Her calming bedside manner and soothing massage skills encouraged me to endure through my most exhausted moments. We feel lucky to have had the presence of a Doula at our hospital birth and would highly recommend Shaina!" - Lorainne Hansen, Doula Client
