Breastfeeding Counselor Certification Program

For students who want to enhance their breastfeeding knowledge and support women and families as Breastfeeding Counselors, we have established a 3 part series of courses that will cover a variety of topics, and also includes some hands-on skills.

Students must attend and successfully complete three Breastfeeding courses listed below.

Additional course-pack or lab fees will be charged.

Program Requirements

Breastfeeding Course Work

Breastfeeding I (BF241) 1 credit hour. Covers prenatal education and the normal course of breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding II (BF243) 1 credit hour. Prerequisite: Breastfeeding I. Covers breastfeeding problems and special situations.

Breastfeeding III (BF243) 1 credit hour. Prerequisite: Breastfeeding I and II. Cast studies and hands-on skills deepen students’ knowledge of breastfeeding counseling. Continuation of lactation support skills designed to move students toward the IBCLC exam.

Additional CEUs will be offered each year to enhance students’ knowledge and to keep them updated on the newest research.
